Common questions
When does the 1.5% transaction fee apply?
The 1.5% fee applies only when you collect payments through the HavenPay shared shortcode — M-Pesa STK Push, Airtel Money, MCo-op Cash, B2C withdrawals, and B2B transfers. If you connect your own Safaricom Paybill or Till, no transaction percentage is charged.
Do merchants with their own shortcode pay anything?
Yes — a platform fee still applies, but it is based on your merchant type rather than a cut of each transaction. ISPs pay per active subscriber per month (tiered). WiFi operators pay per active router. SMS merchants pay per message. Rental and general merchants pay a flat monthly subscription.
How does ISP tiered pricing work?
ISP merchants pay a per-subscriber monthly fee that decreases as their subscriber count grows past a tier threshold. The rate for subscribers above the threshold is lower than the rate for those below it. Contact us for current tier thresholds and rates.
Is there a setup fee?
No. Getting started is free. There is no setup cost on either plan. Merchants on the shared shortcode pay only on successful transactions. Merchants on their own shortcode pay the applicable monthly platform fee.
Do I need my own Safaricom account?
No. HavenPay works with M-Pesa, Airtel Money, MCo-op Cash, KCB Buni, Equitel, PesaLink, Absa Bank, and Paystack without requiring your own Safaricom registration. If you already have your own Paybill or Till, you can connect it and avoid the per-transaction cut.
Can I use multiple products from one account?
